Summer is right around the corner and the temperature is rising. During hot weather our pets are at risk from heat related illness, injury and death. We have a few suggestions to keep your pet happy and healthy this summer.
Healthy Weight
One of the greatest things that you can do for your pet is to keep them at a healthy weight. Animals maintained at a healthy size will have an increased quality of life for a longer period of time. Overweight dogs and cats are faced with a higher risk of chronic health problems, such as diabetes or mobility issues, to mention only a few. Weight is determined on an individual basis and your veterinarian can help you assess your pet. If changes are needed, you and your veterinarian can develop a plan to help your pet reach their goal. A healthy plan will involve a good controlled diet and increased activity. The "new lifestyle" may not easy but the rewards will be well worth the effort.
